Be the Difference

Mentoring is one of the most fun and rewarding ways to make a lasting impact. By spending time with our youth you offer opportunities for essential skill development, support, and exposure to outlets for expression. We offer 1-to-1 and group youth mentoring programs.

1-to-1 Mentoring

Mentor a youth between the ages of 8 and 17 living in San Mateo or Northern Santa Clara Counties. Spend 2-3 hours a week sharing fun activities, and attend unique group activities with other mentorships. 1-to-1 mentors commit to either 6 months or 1 year of mentorship, though most continue their friendship long after. Mentors receive regular support and resources from program staff. Volunteers must be at least 20 years old and have regular access to a car.

Group Mentoring

Join our School-Based, Group Mentoring Program as a mentor for 8th to 10th graders in Redwood City schools. Co-mentors meet with youth in small groups on campus during the school day and participate in enriching discussions and activities. They are also encouraged to contact and support students outside of school.  Mentors commit 1 hour a week for one school year. They must be at least 20 years old.

Event Volunteers

Event volunteers assist Friends for Youth with organizing and staffing one-time events such as fundraising events, activities for youth on our wait list, or becoming a speaker at a youth workshop.

Internships

Friends for Youth interns make a meaningful and lasting impact on our programs. Positions include Program Intern, Nonprofit Management Intern, and Development Intern. If interested in joining our team, email your inquiry and resume to mentor@friendsforyouth.org.
