Why I Donate: Nicolle

When Nicolle first found Friends for Youth, she was looking for a way to make a meaningful impact. Today, she’s not only a mentor but also a recurring donor—helping provide the stability and resources that youth in underserved communities deserve.

Mentor & FFY Bestie Nicolle

Nicolle joined the group mentoring program at the beginning of the 2022 school year. During the pandemic, she realized she wanted to start volunteering again. After a quick Google search, Friends for Youth stood out as a great fit and opportunity.

Like many new mentors, Nicolle felt nervous at first—she wasn’t sure what to expect and felt like a stranger to the kids. But after just a few sessions, the youth began to open up—sharing, asking questions, and engaging more. By the end of the year, they were hugging her and wishing her a wonderful summer. “It reminded me that just being there makes a difference,” she reflects.

As a Group Mentor, Nicolle supports students through our social-emotional curriculum, guiding activities that give them space to reflect, connect, and grow. She appreciates how the program prioritizes mental well-being by providing a consistent, judgment-free environment. She loves that the program isn’t always about delivering big life lessons—sometimes it’s simply about “having fun and letting them feel safe.”

Seeing the value of that supportive space inspired Nicolle to deepen her commitment by becoming a recurring donor through the FFY Bestie Club. She recognized that the simple joys—the snacks, art supplies, field trips—are all made possible by Friends for Youth. “If I can help keep those going by donating each month, I’m glad to do it.”

Proud to be part of the FFY Besties, Nicolle sees her financial support as a continuation of her care for the youth she mentors—another way to bring joy, stability, and resources to their experience. She believes giving time or money—especially both—is a powerful combination. Her message to others is clear: “Just do it. You won’t regret it.”

For Nicolle, Friends for Youth isn’t just a volunteer opportunity—it’s a caring, cool, and connected community. She’s proud to be part of it, both in person and through her giving.

“Change happens through real, personal relationships—and this program makes that possible.”
