Nate Ford
Program Associate
For more than three decades, Nate Ford has dedicated his life to one mission: creating opportunities that empower young people to succeed. A nationally respected youth development leader, mentor, and community advocate, Ford has built a legacy defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to helping others reach their full potential.
In 1990, he founded the San Francisco Rebels, which grew into one of the nation’s most recognized grassroots basketball programs. Under his leadership, thousands of young people have benefited from mentorship, academic support, leadership development, and exposure to higher education opportunities. While athletics opened the door, Ford’s lasting impact has always been measured by the lives he has helped shape beyond the game.
Throughout his career, Ford has served in leadership roles with organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, San Francisco Recreation and Parks, and Success Centers. As Head of the Credible Messenger Program inside San Francisco Juvenile Hall, he works directly with justice-involved youth, helping them build accountability, confidence, and hope for the future through mentorship and restorative practices.
Ford is also the founder of Nate’s Place and Nate Ford Sports Group, organizations dedicated to expanding access to mentoring, youth development, athletics, workforce readiness, and educational opportunities. His work continues to bridge communities, connect resources, and create meaningful pathways for young people throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
Widely respected for his authenticity, vision, and ability to inspire others, Ford believes that true leadership is measured not by personal achievements, but by the number of lives positively impacted along the way. His influence can be seen in the countless former participants who have gone on to become college graduates, professionals, community leaders, coaches, and mentors themselves.
