Nate Ford’s commitment to young people is deeply rooted in his belief that every young person deserves someone in their corner. For more than three decades, he has dedicated his career to creating spaces where youth can feel supported, build confidence, and see possibilities for their future.

Since founding the San Francisco Rebels in 1990, Ford has spent his career using mentorship, athletics, education, and community connections to help young people reach their full potential. What began as a grassroots basketball program grew into a nationally recognized youth development organization, providing thousands of young people with mentorship, academic support, leadership opportunities, and exposure to higher education. Throughout his career, Ford has also held leadership roles with organizations including Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, San Francisco Recreation and Parks, and Success Centers.

At Friends for Youth, Ford brings that same passion for mentorship and youth development to his work supporting young people and strengthening the connections that help them thrive. His experience working directly with youth—including justice-involved young people through San Francisco Juvenile Hall’s Credible Messenger Program—has shaped his approach to building trust, encouraging accountability, and helping young people recognize their own potential.

For Ford, this work is about much more than creating programs or opportunities. It is about helping young people know that they are seen, supported, and capable of becoming whoever they want to be. He has seen firsthand how one caring adult, one meaningful opportunity, or one moment of encouragement can change the direction of a young person’s life.

Known for his authenticity, energy, and ability to bring people together, Ford leads with the belief that success is measured by the lives we impact and the opportunities we help create for others. His greatest reward is seeing young people grow into confident adults, community leaders, mentors, and advocates who carry that same spirit of support forward.
